'84 Troopster
This is my story, it is...amusing, for lack of a better word!
Bought this 1984 Trooper for $300. Rescued it from a mud puddle, not running. Compression check, NADA!! Took off head, had head shaved, all exhaust valves were cracked. Replaced exhaust valves. Replaced clutch, replaced timing chain, replaced main bearings and connecting rod bearings, all gaskets and seals. $800 later, truck runs like a top. Found out it leaks oil, not only leaks, goes through a quart every 3 days. I drive an average of 40 miles a day. No visible leaks, some white smoke out the back, but not enough to burn that much oil. Said screw it, truck is old enough to buy a case of oil every 2 weeks.
Built new bumper for truck. Front DEER GUARD. Over the years, I have found that deer like to commit suicide on my hood. Bumper is built out of 4 inch by 2 inch square stock. Cost= $25
4X4 works GREAT!! Decided to buy new tires for winter. Should be a great winter vehicle considering we live on the base of a Mountain.
Engine starts running uneven and losing power, especially up hills. Compression check. 10 pounds in cylinder 1, the other 3 had 180# to 170#. Trooper goes back into sickbay. Take off head, find HUGE hole in exhaust valve on #1 cylinder. Another engine pull. This brings us up to date.
Have owned this Trooper for 8 months. I think it liked the mudpuddle it was sitting in and would have like to retire.
NOT!!!!
Did I mention, I LOVE my Trooper!!!
